MaineVu Maine Coons is located in the New York City area.
Our motto; “Happy Tails and Happy Hearts”
exemplifies our love for these wonderful cats
who allow us to share their lives. The kittens
will be born in our bedroom and then after their
first set of shots at 8 weeks, allowed the
freedom of the rest of the house. Our cats have
been shown successfully in The International Cat
Association (TICA) and The Cat Fanciers
Association (CFA). Please check our Show Cats page to see our current and past winners.
Our goal is to continue to improve, protect and
enhance the Maine Coon Breed. We want to
provide loving, healthy, happy Maine Coons as
show cats or pets, that will welcome you when
you come home, follow you around and engage you
in trills and purrs of conversation.
The latest methods of medical screening are
utilized to prevent knowingly passing on
unhealthy genes. MaineVu cats are tested
for FELV and FIV annually. They have tested
clear for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), using
the latest DNA testing available by Michigan
State University. As Ultrasound is still the
most effective method of screening for
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) we have the
hearts of all of our breeding stock tested by a
board certified cardiologist as well as the
newest DNA test to check for one of the genetic
mutations found to be responsible for HCM.
Written documentation of the heart screenings
are supplied to each kitten buyer. Although no
breeder can guarantee that a cat’s heart will
not develop the disease, we are comfortable
knowing that all our breeding males and females
have normal healthy hearts before they are bred.
All kittens will be spayed or neutered prior to
their departure, at 12-14 weeks. Micro-chipping
is recommended during the kitten’s surgery. A
complete medical history of each kitten is
provided listing the first and second series of
shots and worming when they are ready to leave
our home.
Our theme is one of the earth, sea, river,
foliage and sky; and the views and vistas and
rich heritage of Native American Indians. We
take turns naming our kittens, while Margie’s
choices are more traditional, Phil’s are very
interesting and whimsical. |
